Information

Balleroy Temeglyph (バルロイ・テメグリフ) was the former Ninth ranking Divine General of the Sacred Vollachia Empire. Balleroy was a supposed conspirator of a rebellion against the Vollachia Empire and Emperor Vincent Vollachia launched in tandem with Gramdart Holstoy and the Insect Cage Clan. However, in actuality, he gave his life for the Empire so that the Emperor could accept a non-aggression pact with the Kingdom of Lugunica.

In Arc 7 and Arc 8, Balleroy and his flying dragon, Carillon, both appear as zombies during the Great Disaster.

Appearance

Balleroy was a tall man with blackish brown hair. He had a pale complexion and droopy eyes. He wore a green shirt under copper-plated armor, and brown gloves on his hands. He also wore black pants with four small bags around his hips and brown boots.

As a zombie, he possesses pale skin bereft of color, various cracks that run across his body, pitch-black sclera, and radiant golden irises.

Personality

Balleroy was a calm, talkative and cheerful man, who took pride in his title as the Ninth Divine General. Despite his apparent nature, however, Balleroy was cold and ruthless in a fight, not caring about who he was fighting against—men, women, children, the elderly—if he was tasked with killing them, he claimed that he would have no problem doing so, though before he died, he expressed a sense of gratitude at not having actually killed any women or children. Following the death of Miles, Balleroy swore to take revenge on Reinhard van Astrea no matter what it would take. Sadly for him, however, he never had the chance to face off against the Sword Saint, as he was defeated and killed in a duel between him and Julius Juukulius, roughly four to five months before the start of the main story.

History

Balleroy was adopted by Miles as a child and grew up at House Dracroy. He had a deep attachment to Miles and thought of him as a sworn brother. When he was around 12 or 13 years old, he got his hands on a dragon egg and decided to incubate it. During this process, he came across two kids like him, Flop O'Connell and Medium O'Connell, and became friends with them. Together, Balleroy, Miles, and Flop thought up a name for the flying dragon, Carillon, when it hatched. When Carillon's fangs were replaced by new ones, Balleroy gave one fang each to Flop and Medium as souvenirs.

Some 7 years before the main story, Serena sent the Miles and Balleroy, now Imperial Soldiers of the Imperial Army, to the Pendleton Estate in order to invite Jorah Pendleton and his wife Priscilla Barielle to the Gladiator Island Ginunhive. While they were there, the gladiators attempted to spark a revolution that would render the island independent from the mainland, which later ended up failing thanks to the intervention of the Imperial Army. Serena, Priscilla, Jorah, Balleroy, and Miles then went back to the Pendleton mansion after this incident. At an unknown point in time after this, Balleroy became a member of the Nine Divine Generals under Vincent Vollachia's rule as Emperor.

Roughly 4 to 5 months before the start of the main story, Reinhard van Astrea, Julius Juukulius, and Ferris escorted two members of the Council of Wise Men on a diplomatic mission to the Empire in order to sign a non-aggression pact between the Kingdom and the Empire. After an unfortunate turn of events, Reinhard found himself standing in front of Balleroy's corpse and was subsequently labeled as guilty for the man's murder, leaving him no other choice but to escape, taking the Emperor as a "hostage". After battling with three of the other Nine Divine Generals, Vincent, Julius, Ferris, and Reinhard came to the conclusion that Balleroy was not actually dead but rather faked his own death in order to divert the attention of the three Royal Guards. He attempted to use the situation to seize revenge on Reinhard for killing his sworn brother, Miles, who had died a few months earlier during a mission in Lugunica. Before long, Balleroy entered a deadly duel with Julius after the death of his beloved dragon, Carillon, which concluded with his death when he was pierced on the left side of his chest.

Abilities

Flying Dragon Rider: Balleroy was an expert flying dragon rider and the best in Vollachia. He used his talent for dragon riding in conjunction with his magic for mobility. His dragon was named Carillon. Balleroy learned how to tame and fly flying dragons from Miles.[1][2]

Magic User (魔法使い Maho Tsukai): Balleroy was able to use both Yang and Wind Magic. He was able to combine the two to camouflage himself[3] and use Yang Magic to snipe his enemies from afar with invisible magic bullets. He could also change the speed of his bullets in order to launch sweeping attacks from several directions at once by himself. However, while camouflaging himself, he became unable to hear his surroundings.[4]

Equipment: Balleroy wielded a long spear from the tip of which he was able to shoot colorless globes of light. The projectiles were simple spheres of mana, not imbued with any element.

  • Magic Bullet Marksmanship: Balleroy was capable of casting and shooting magic bullets (魔弾, mahi) through the tip of his spear. The orbs were relatively large and colourless. He was capable of shooting them with extreme precision and immense speed, dispatching enemies with ease and deadly proficiency. Due to his ability to tame flying dragons and his deadly precision, Balleroy rose through the ranks and became the Ninth Divine General, feared through the lands under the alias of Magic Bullet Marksman.

Trivia

  • As of Ex Volume 4's release in December 2019, Balleroy's design was the author's favourite for a character from Vollachia, as he found him to be the most dashing and sexy guy.[5] It is unknown if his opinion has changed over time.
