Divine Protections (加護 Kago) are various powers that may be given to someone at birth.

Information

Divine Protections are powers given to people at birth by the world, bestowed by Od Lagna. Some races have a Divine Protection that is always received by members of that race. Most people are born without any Divine Protection, and those who are born with it know of their own Divine Protection without being told. The ratio of Divine Protection holders is 1:100 for useless ones, 1:1,000 for useful ones, 1:10,000 for somewhat rare ones, 1:100,000 for really useful ones, 1:1,000,000 for unique ones, 1:10,000,000 for more than one, and the existence of those with more than one Divine Protection are considered to be strange. It's also worth noting that two Divine Protections that work against each other (for example, if person A has Divine Protection of Projectile Evasion and person B has a made-up Divine Protection of Always-Hitting-Your-Shots) will cancel each other out.

According to both Beatrice and the author himself, Witch Factors are incompatible with those who have Divine Protections, and Authorities are superior versions of Divine Protections. Though Divine Protections remain with the individual from birth to death, it is possible to temporarily strip one of their Divine Protection by using a magic circle that isolates an area from Od Lagna. According to Echidna, Divine Protections didn't always exist, but they were created in hopes of countering Authority users. Divine Protections date back to at least four centuries and around several decades before the modern era, with Alec Hoshin, who was a middle-aged man before the Great Calamity, possessing the Divine Protection of Evaluation since his birth.

However, being born with powers that differed from person to person also meant said people cultivated different values from each other. Thus it was typical for people who had Divine Protections to keep what they did a secret so to not cause any unnecessary problems. Sometimes, people even went as far as murdering the Divine Protection owner, out of sheer jealousy. According to Roswaal J Mathers, asking about the specifics of an individual's Divine Protection is considered very rude and generally an awful thing to ask about.

Divine Protections have the potential for individual variations and growths, meaning two people with the same Divine Protection can have slightly different effects either from the get-go or through eventual synchronization between the Divine Protection and its host's growth. A good example would be different variations of the Divine Protection of Wind Evasion, usually being possessed by earth dragons. Some can have their speed affected, while others can have their range and durability affected. Certain Divine Protections that are possessed by all members of certain groups in the world. The Divine Protection of Wind Evasion is possessed by all earth dragons, the Divine Protection of Ambushing is possessed by all half wolf human werewolves, and an unnamed Divine Protection is possessed by the Uruha people, who are native to Gusteko. In addition, items can be engraved with select Divine Protections.

Types of Divine Protections

Divine Protection of Wind Reading

The Divine Protection of Wind Reading (風見の加護, Kazami no Kago) is used by Crusch Karsten. It enables her to read the wind and to see invisible things just like the wind. Crusch can also use it to read the situation of others' emotions, making her able to tell if someone has lied.

Divine Protection of Durability

The Divine Protection of Durability (堅固の加護, Kengo no Kago) is a Divine Protection that can be engraved into an item worn by a person. So long as the user of a piece of equipment engraved with this Divine Protection does not exhaust their mana, the equipment will be far more durable than it would regularly. This Divine Protection is engraved into Crusch Karsten's armor.

Divine Protection of Wind Evasion

The Divine Protection of Wind Evasion (風除けの加護, Kazeyoke no Kago) is a Divine Protection owned by all earth dragons, as well as Reinhard van Astrea. It enables the user to be unaffected by the wind and not encounter any wind resistance while running. The effect also applies to the passengers, one may carry or transport. After activation, there is a cool down period before the user can use it again.

Divine Protection of the Soul of Language

The Divine Protection of the Soul of Language (言霊の加護, Kotodama no Kago) is used by Otto Suwen. It enables the user to talk with all sorts of living creatures, however the user speaks in the language of the creature they're talking with, making the user look shady to others. As Otto can't use it properly, he normally keeps it plugged. Continuous use of this Divine Protection can cause the user to cough blood. It's also worth noting that the vast majority of people who're blessed with this Divine Protection ended up going mad and committing suicide, due to the non-stop barrage of noises which are impossible to cancel. Otto Suwen is only the second person in history who managed to tame and control it.

Divine Protection of the Death God

The Divine Protection of the Death God (死神の加護, Shinigami no Kago) was formerly used by Theresia van Astrea. Slashes imbued with the Divine Protection's power leave wounds that are unable to be healed. The power of the Divine Protection increases the closer they are to the target, and the user can even reopen wounds others have if they are close enough and were originally inflicted by them. If the wound expands so does the effect of the protection, if the wound was a light cut on the finger and the target cut off said finger this new wound becomes the target of the protection. The effects disappear if the user dies.

Divine Protection of Earth Spirits

The Divine Protection of Earth Spirits (地霊の加護, Chirei no Kago) is used by Garfiel Tinsel. As long as the user has their feet on the ground, their body is covered in a tough guard of earth. The user can cause the earth to cave in with a single step, reduce the effects of Earth Magic, and accelerate the recovery of wounds and stamina.

Divine Protection of Demon Manipulation

The Divine Protection of Demon Manipulation (魔操の加護, Masou no Kago) is used by Meili Portroute. Only one of this Divine Protection can exist at a time. It allows the user to control hornless Demon Beasts, making the user a Demon Beast User (魔獣使い Majuu Tsukai). Normally, hornless Demon Beasts are killed by others, but due to the Divine Protection, the user apparently functions as the horn. The user is unable to control powerful Demon Beast such as the Hakugei and can be incompatible with certain others, such as the Oiranguma, though the user can still control them.

Divine Protection of Telepathy

The Divine Protection of Telepathy (伝心の加護, Denshin no Kago) is used by Reinhard van Astrea and Liliana Masquerade. It enables the user to tell other people their thoughts telepathically. While it's normally used to tell close friends certain thoughts, it can be combined with singing to increase the strength and effect range.

Divine Protection of Water

The Divine Protection of Water (水の加護, Mizu no Kago) is used by Ferris. It makes the user highly skilled in Water Magic.

Divine Protection of Gathering Spirits

The Divine Protection of Gathering Spirits (誘精の加護, Yūsei no Kago) is used by Julius Juukulius. It enables the user to see, talk, and be liked by spirits, though the user has to work hard to actually get liked by them.

Divine Protection of Trisection

The Divine Protection of Trisection (三分の加護, Sanbun no Kago) is used by Mimi Pearlbaton, Hetaro Pearlbaton, and Tivey Pearlbaton. It enables the users to bear themselves or each other's physical and emotional burdens and can also be used to split damage between all users such as to block death blows. However, if they were to use it on themselves, they would have to bear a heavy burden on their body. As Mimi is the strongest out of the three of her brothers, they are often stuck with bearing her burdens. In addition, Tivey can launch a destructive interference wave using the Divine Protection and his siblings, though Mimi is limited to five times and Hetaro and Tivey are limited to two times respectively, so the maximum usage per day is four times.

Divine Protection of the Sun

The Divine Protection of the Sun (太陽の加護, Nichirin no Kago) is used by Priscilla Barielle. It increases the effects of buffs and the user becomes stronger during the day.

Divine Protection of Evaluation

The Divine Protection of Evaluation (目利きの加護, Mekiki no Kago) is used by Russell Fellow and Alec Hoshin. It enables the user to determine if an item is of good or bad quality, and if the item is in front of them, they can evaluate its condition and quality with perfect accuracy. However, if the user is evaluating an item they've never seen before, they only know if it's of good or bad quality, and gain no knowledge of how it's used or how much it's worth.

Divine Protection of the Sword Saint

The Divine Protection of Sword Saint (剣聖の加護, Kensei no Kago) was formerly used by Fribal van Astrea and Theresia van Astrea, and is currently used by Reinhard van Astrea. Whoever holds this Divine Protection becomes the Sword Saint and inherits its powers which draws out maximum martial skill potential within them. The user is also able to see white lines which indicate the enemy's sword slashes, creating an optimal path for defence and offence as the vectors are drawn out by Sword God himself. Unlike the other Divine Protection, this one is passed down from user to user, and the inheritor doesn't need to be near the holder when it is transferred. Furthermore, the previous Sword Saint will instinctively know who their successor is.

Divine Protection of Empathy

The Divine Protection of Empathy (共感の加護, Kyōkan no Kago) allows the user to read the feelings of the person they touched. Some individuals were even capable of making two people understand each other, by simply touching them and standing in between them. This Divine Protection was once held by an unnamed soldier in Picoutatte who Stride Vollachia killed.

Divine Protection of Bedroom Wiles

The Divine Protection of Bedroom Wiles (寝技の加護, Nezawa no Kago) is used by Camberley. This allows the user to be skilled in bed.

Divine Protection of Distant Vision

The Divine Protection of Distant Vision (遠見の加護, Tōmi no Kago) was previously used by Mozolite. It allows the user to see the precise location of a target or closely observe opponents who fulfill specific unknown conditions.

Divine Protection of Mind-Changing

The Divine Protection of Mind-Changing (変心の加護, Henshin no Kago) allows the user to change the mind of the person they target with the Divine Protection. Due to its potency, this Divine Protection has been renowned as being dangerous to the rule of nations throughout history. Throughout history, it has been observed to be able to topple entire nations. This protection was used by a four year old Reinhard van Astrea, until he willingly deactivated and deleted it.

Divine Protection of Mindspeak

The Divine Protection of Mindspeak (念話の加護, Nenhanashi no Kago) is used by the twin sisters Grassis Remendis and Flam Remendis. The Divine Protection allows the user to telepathically speak to each other, without any major drawbacks such as distance. It can, however, only be used once per day.

Divine Protection of Ambushing

The Divine Protection of Ambushing (騙し討ちの加護, Damashiuchi no Kago) is owned by all half-wolf humans, dubbed werewolves. Although its exact effects are unknown, it enables werewolves to be difficult to find by other people. If a werewolf is skinned alive, the Divine Protection remains active on their pelt and can be utilized as a tool to conceal oneself from the attention of others. An archaic name for this Divine Protection is the Divine Protection of the Concealing Cloud (雲隠れの加護, Kumogakure no Kago).

Divine Protection of Morale

The Divine Protection of Morale (高揚の加護, Kōyō no Kago) is used by Medium O'Connell. The more excited or motivated its user feels, the more their physical abilities increase in response. However, the Divine Protection is a double-edged sword, since because it is affected by a person's mood, it also diminishes its user's abilities if they feel sad or enter a depressive state.

Felt's Unnamed Divine Protection

Felt has a currently unnamed Divine Protection which Elsa mentions is likely related to wind. The Divine Protection allows Felt to dash ahead as fast as the blink of an eye, travel inhuman speeds in less than a second. It is shown that her Divine Protection can be used differently as well. During Arc 5, Felt has used her Divine Protection to climb up walls and buildings.

Reinhard’s various Divine Protections

For reasons that remain unknown, Reinhard van Astrea has the unique ability to receive additional Divine Protections and keep them permanently. Whenever he feels that he needs a Divine Protection in a specific situation, Od Lagna will promptly bestow him one. However, if there is an error in conveying his intention, he may not receive a proper Divine Protection. He also possesses the capability to erase them his stock, as seen when he was bestowed the Divine Protection of Mind-Changing at the age of five years old and quickly removed it several hours after he received it.

Divine Protection of the Phoenix

The Divine Protection of the Phoenix (不死鳥の加護, Fushichō no Kago) enables the user to come back to life immediately only once if they die.

Divine Protection of the Phoenix: Next

The Divine Protection of the Phoenix: Next (続・不死鳥の加護, Zoku・Fushichō no Kago) enables the user to come back to life immediately only once if they die. As Reinhard will always be revived by the world upon being killed, he would continue to receive "Next Next" or "Next Next Next" versions of the Divine Protection of the Phoenix when the one he has is used up.

Divine Protection of Judgement

The Divine Protection of Judgement (審判の加護, Shinpan no Kago) enables the user to know of any Divine Protections that another individual has.

Divine Protection of Anti-Magic

The Divine Protection of Anti-Magic (対魔の加護, Tai Ma no Kago) makes its user immune against magic buffs, magic debuffs, and curse arts.

Divine Protection of Anti-Malignance

The Divine Protection of Anti-Malignance (退魔の加護, Taima no Kago) allows its user to resist miasma.

Divine Protection of Water Drainage

The Divine Protection of Water Drainage (水捌けの加護, Mizuhake no Kago) allows its user to reflect 80% of water magic.

Divine Protection of Fire Avoidance

The Divine Protection of Fire Avoidance (火避けの加護, Hisake no Kago) makes its user cut 80% of the damage of fire magic.

Divine Protection of Wind Absorption

The Divine Protection of Wind Absorption (風受けの加護, Kazeuke no Kago) lets its user absorbs 80% of wind magic.

Divine Protection of Mud Slipping

The Divine Protection of Mud Slipping (泥抜けの加護, Doronuke no Kago) decreases the effect of earth magic on its user by 80%.

Divine Protection of Darkness Nullification

The Divine Protection of Darkness Nullification (闇払いの加護, Yamibarai no Kago) causes the user to nullify 80% of yin magic.

Divine Protection of Light Disentanglement

The Divine Protection of Light Disentanglement (光解きの加護, Hikaritoki no Kago) permits the user to split the transfer of 80% of yang magic to another target.

Divine Protection of Projectile Evasion

The Divine Protection of Projectile Evasion (矢避けの加護, Yayoke no Kago) makes thrown weapons such as knives change their trajectory, effectively making it impossible for them to hit the user.

Divine Protection of Projectile Striking

The Divine Protection of Projectile Striking (矢当ての加護, Yaate no Kago) makes ranged attacks always hit the user's target.

Divine Protection of Blue Skies

The Divine Protection of Blue Skies (蒼天の加護, Sōten no Kago) allows the user to become stronger when they are under blue skies.

The Divine Protection of Teary Skies (涙天の加護, Ruiten no Kago) allows the user to become stronger when under rainy skies.

The Divine Protection of Night Skies (夜天の加護, Yozora no Kago) allows the user to become stronger when under the night sky.

Divine Protection of Initiative

The Divine Protection of Initiative (先制の加護, Sensei no Kago) enables its user's first attack on an opponent to always land and to never fall victim to surprise attacks.

Divine Protection of First Sight

The Divine Protection of First Sight (初見の加護, Hatsumi no Kago) enables the user to instinctively know how to counter or dodge attacks that they experience for the first time, including surprise attacks. But if the user is unable to physically avoid or counter the attack, the Divine Protection will not activate.

Divine Protection of Second Sight

The Divine Protection of Second Sight (再臨の加護, Sairin no Kago) enables the user to intuitively respond to an attack that they experience twice or more with a vastly greater speed, including surprise attacks. This effectively causes attacks to not land on a user, making it an effective ability against formidable opponents. Reinhard has used this Divine Protection to avoid taking hits from the Divine Dragon Volcanica.

Divine Protection of Salt Reasoning

The Divine Protection of Salt Reasoning (塩の理の加護, Shio no Ri no Kago) enables the user to never mistake salt with sugar.

Divine Protection of the Child of Wind

The Divine Protection of the Child of Wind (風の子の加護, Kaze no Ko no Kago) prevents the user from being sick.

Divine Protection of Panacea

The Divine Protection of Panacea (百薬の加護, Hyakuyaku no Kago) makes the user immune from diseases.

Non-Canon Divine Protections

Divine Protection of Sorcery

• In the Web Novel of Arc 2, the Divine Protection of Sorcery (魔導の加護, Madō no Kago) made Roswaal L Mathers compatible with all six magic attributes, enabling him to use magic perfectly. Using this Divine Protection, Roswaal was considered to be the best in the kingdom in terms of mana usage, power, and speed, and is recognized to be as strong as one army. Although this Divine Protection was removed from the Light Novel, Roswaal still retains the power described here.

Divine Protection of Earth

• In the Web Novel of Arc 7, the Divine Protection of Earth (土の加護, Tsuchi no Kago) could be used on walls to make them more durable. This ability was used on the bastions surrounding the Imperial Capital of Lupugana. Although this Divine Protection was removed from the Light Novel, the bastions still retain this power by instead being reinforced with earth magic.

Divine Protection of Insensitivity

• In Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne, the Divine Protection of Insensitivity (無神経の加護, Mushinkei no Kago) was used by Tiga Rauleon. It makes sure the user's body can't be interfered with by any outside influences, whether be magical enhancement or impairment.
