Theatrical Malice (劇場型悪意) is the first episode of Season 3 of the Re:Zero anime and the fifty-first episode of the overall series.
Plot[]
Subaru, on a training course, practices in parkour and using a whip. Upon finishing, Beatrice congratulates him and hands him a towel prepared for him by Petra. It has been a year since the two have established their contract. The two converse for a short time, and Petra arrives to inform them that a visitor has arrived at the mansion, having been requested by Emilia to fetch Subaru and Beatrice. Arriving at the mansion, the trio are greeted by Mimi Pearlbaton, who jumps on Subaru. She tells Subaru that Julius is not with her. Ram is waiting in front of the door where the visitor is with Otto and Emilia, and Garfiel opens the door to invite them inside. Emilia introduces Subaru as her knight to the visitor, a messenger for Anastasia Hoshin, Joshua Juukulius, Julius's younger brother.
Joshua inquires about Beatrice's presence to Subaru. Mimi expresses the belief that she is Subaru and Emilia's child. Subaru plays along until Emilia firmly denies it. He properly introduces Beatrice as the great spirit he is contracted with. Hearing this, Joshua expresses surprise at learning the rumours were true, and boasts that his brother is the top spirit knight in the country, as well as the star of the Kingdom Knights who is effectively the deputy commander. He apologizes for his tangent afterward, and in response, Garfiel uses the saying “Baumbehm tastes better the longer it ages”. The topic of baumbehm catches Mimi's attention. She voices her love for baumbehm and runs and jumps onto Garfiel, asking if he wants to eat some together with her, to which he accepts. Bringing the subject matter back on track, Joshua delivers Anastasia's message to Emilia: an invitation to the Watergate City of Priestella, which has the magic crystal that Emilia is seeking as a catalyst to bring Puck back.

Anime Differences[]
- The episode starts off with a training montage of Subaru doing parkour and using his whip.
- There is no mention of Subaru's mentor, Clind, in the introductory scene with Beatrice.
- The Emilia Camp's inability to verify their achievement of defeating the Great Rabbit is no longer brought up.
- In the scene with Roswaal, there is no mention of Annerose Miload's attendance of the upcoming assembly.
- Subaru does not recognize Liliana, making the events of the A Heroic Tale Starting from Zero side story from Tanpenshuu Volume 1 not canon to the anime.
- As the events of the side story do not occur in anime canon, Subaru also does not recognize Dynas and the White Dragon's Scales.
- The "phantom" Elsa Granhiert that Garfiel sees has several lines of dialogue, compared to the light novel in which she did not speak.
- An anime-only flashback visual between a younger Wilhelm and Reinhard was added during the former's conversation with Subaru.
- The part of Julius and Subaru's conversation regarding the rumours surrounding Heinkel allegedly being responsible for kidnapping the missing princess during the Royal Abduction Incident was cut.
- The scene of Mimi frolicking around Beatrice and pulling her hair was omitted, and Subaru's night talk with Rem was abridged. However, an adaptation of the former, as well as an expansion of the latter, is featured in Break Time Episode 51.
