Information |
Jamal Aurélie (ジャマル・オーレリー) is a Low Count of the Sacred Vollachia Empire and the sole Escort General of the Imperial Army, acting as Emperor Vincent Vollachia's personal bodyguard. He played both supporting and antagonistic roles in Arc 7, and a supporting role in Arc 8.
Initially appearing as a Private First-Class of the Imperial Army, Jamal was captured by members of the People of Shudrak during the Fall of Guaral and held under Second-Class General Zikr Osman's forces. Eventually, he joined the two groups in helping Vincent Abellux reclaim his throne. During the Great Disaster, Jamal was promoted to a Third-Class General and was appointed as Vincent's personal bodyguard while on the way to Lupugana, maintaining this role after he survived the Conquest of the Undead Capital and being granted the title of Escort General.
Appearance[]
Jamal is a tall and very well-built man wearing an eyepatch with Vollachia's Sword Wolf symbol over his scarred right eye. He has rough blue eyes, messy and unkempt dark brown hair, as well as a small stubble beard. As per all Imperial Soldiers who are not Generals, Jamal could be seen sporting Vollachia's standard military uniform, consisting of a red undershirt with short sleeves, a grey overshirt, black pants, black boots with red stripes, black gloves, and a chest protector and shoulder pads. He retains the same uniform upon his promotion to Third-Class General. He also has two twin swords which are usually stationed on his back when they're not drawn.
Personality[]
Jamal tends to be an openly hostile and aggressive man. Likewise, he has a tendency to quickly resort to violence. Despite being initially stopped by Todd, Jamal continued to with his oppressive and rough attitude towards Subaru, going as far as to stomp on Subaru's broken fingers and badly beat him, and he even lifted Spica by the hair and slammed her into the ground in order to "teach her a lesson". Despite these rough traits, however, Jamal has a sense of honor. He can fight alongside his comrades without complaint, and he becomes enraged on their account if someone was responsible for causing them harm, as in the case with Rem. In a similar way, he has shown willing to take injuries meant for his comrades in battle, and he recognizes when he needs to defend someone because of their importance to the given situation. He pushed Subaru and Spica out of the way of an attack meant for them while taking the injury himself, realizing that they were key for taking down the Great Disaster.
Jamal is a loyal man, showing his emperor the utmost respect, and he is even willing to punish those he believes are being disrespectful towards the man. This loyalty even extends to people he is willing to take into his family, such as Medium O'Connell, who became the Imperial Empress Consort. The same can also be said for his own only family. Though he always acts tough in front of his sister Katya, he feels sad when she is hurt, and he is willing to martyr himself during battle so that all of the proceeds of his death would be sent to her, believing that that was the best way to help her aside from being there himself. This side of him also quite characteristic of most Vollachian soldiers, who all wish to fight in meet their end in battle, as Vincent himself attests to.
History[]
Five years before the start of the main story, Jamal was stationed in the Fortified City of Garkla. After the destruction of the city resulting from the Sin Archbishop of Greed some years prior, numerous factions of bandits came into the city under one union and interfered with the rebuilding process. However, Jamal fought and slew one of the bandit's leaders in order to make his enemies lose morale at the cost of his right eye. Later, Jamal met Todd, who had quit being a bandit at that point, and introduced him to his younger sister, Katya.
Roughly two to three months before the start of the main story, Jamal and Todd were talking about the revolt that had started at that point in time by Yorna Mishigure, the Seventh ranking Divine General. During this conversation, Jamal talked about how he heard a rumor about testing people in the subjugation of Yorna's rebellion in order to see who would take the place of the former Ninth ranking Divine General. After Jamal was asked about his source, he revealed that he had heard it from a few people who fled from a fortress that Yorna had attacked. After taking the time to gather more information, the two later captured the fled soldiers to turn them in as prisoners and helped to bring an end to the rebellion, though they received no reward for their contributions.
Abilities[]
Skilled Swordsman: Jamal is a dual-wielding swordsman with surprisingly graceful skill. He is easily capable of dispatching strong opponents, be it witchbeasts or other soldiers, as well as deflecting a storm of arrows shot at him with high speed and precision.[1] After Subaru led Todd, Jamal, and the rest of their group into the Elgina's ambush, Jamal was the one who fought it almost single-handedly and even decapitated it without much trouble, a feat not many can pride themselves with. Later, he was able to easily dispatch someone as strong as Holly Shudrak with relative ease. Jamal had risen to his rank as a First-Class Soldier in the Empire for his skill with the sword and fighting prowess, which is said to be on par with roughly ten regular Imperial Soldiers,[2] and was thought by Todd to be able to reach the status of Third-Class General in time, which he successfully reached by the time of the Great Disaster. However, he still cannot compare himself to truly strong individuals such as the Nine Divine Generals.
Above-Average Reflexes: Jamal displayed above average reflexes in battle, as he was easily able to run long distances and deflect incoming arrows with his twin swords without getting hit or even grazed by them.
Brute Strength: While not possessing even a fifth of the strength of the individuals such as the Divine Generals, Jamal is very strong for a normal person.
Equipment
- Twin Swords: Jamal masterfully wields twin swords in battle, using either for offense or defense as needed with surprising skill.[3]
