Information

Libre Fermi (リブレ・フエルミ) was one of the three leaders of the Demi-Human Alliance during the Demi-Human War. He was an influential warrior who was renowned for his prowess in battle and had a reputation as a hero among demi-humans.

In the midst of the war, Libre was betrayed and killed by Sphinx, the backbone of the Alliance, became a corpse soldier, and was used as a puppet in death until he was defeated by Bordeaux Zellgef.

Appearance[]

Libre was a snake human and had a long body with green scales and yellow eyes. He wore a Jiangshi hat, had a black and purple uniform with red ribbons, and carried a twin-bladed weapon with him in combat.

Personality[]

As the moral heart and center of the Demi-Human Alliance, Libre was one of its most influential leaders. Compared to Valga and Sphinx, Libre sought to use war as a way to force humans to the negotiating table, and not for the destruction of humans or making use of them in experiments. Compared to the extremes of Valga and Sphinx, Libre sought the middle ground of compromise. During his time with the pair, Libre realized that if the Alliance lost the war, it would be because Valga could not quell his rage.[1]

Libre was an honorable man who detested unnecessary violence or the desecration of dead humans and demi-humans alike. Among the three leaders in the Demi-Human Alliance, Libre was the one who wanted to reconcile with Lugunica the most. However, he believed that he needed to embody the anger of demi-humans, so he went against his wishes and chose to fight. He also enjoyed fighting strong opponents and held commend for warriors that could make him bleed and weep. With his high appreciation for warriors, he recognized Wilhelm's strong vitality, sought to give him a painless death, and promised to put a flower on the Sword Demon's grave out of respect for the boy's abilities. In addition, he chose to behave femininely, speaking in a feminine style and being willing to take on the role of something like a mother figure for other people.

History[]

While Libre's early history is unknown, he saved Valga Cromwell from slavery in the past.[2] He became Valga's friend, teacher, and mother figure before the Demi-Human War.[3]

As one of the leaders of the Demi-Human Alliance, Libre fought side by side with Valga under a shared purpose of advancing the rights of demi-humans, despite their different goals. The situation between the two changed when Valga found and brought Sphinx into their ranks. As the Witch's methods started to become increasingly questionable, Libre began to grow estranged from Valga over the his support for her. Although Libre continued to argue with Valga and was threatened with death by Sphinx, he continued to work alongside them, as they were indispensable to the Alliance's success. Before dying, Libre entrusted his copy of a glintstone that was necessary for entering Sphinx's Testing Grounds to Cragrell Dawson, the third leader of the Demi-Human Alliance.

At the Battle of Aihiya Swamp, Libre ambushed the Zellgef Squadron and engaged in combat with them. One by one, the squadron's members fell to him, including Pivot Arnancy, who died and became a corpse soldier, and Grimm Fauzen's, who sustained a permanent throat injury to his throat that left him unable to speak. After an intense fight, Libre finally claimed the upper hand against Wilhelm Trias. Before he could deliver a killing blow to Wilhelm, Sphinx arrived to shower Libre with multiple incantations of Jiwald, much to his rage and disappointment at the betrayal. He was murdered by another barrage of Jiwald spells and she turned him into a corpse soldier to cover her escape.

Following the conflict at Aihiya Swamp, Libre's corpse was used as Sphinx's puppet in the Battle for Lugunica Castle, where he fought against the remainder of the Zellgef Squadron once more. He battled Bordeaux Zellgef until he suffered a severe amount of damage and the remainders of his soul would "return" due to the Sacrament of the Immortal King's effects. In his corpse's last act, Libre turned on Sphinx, cleaved off her arm, and promptly turned into ash.

Abilities[]

Double-Blade Fighting-Style: Wielding a fierce and tricky combat-style with his double-blade sword, Libre was a terrible and overwhelming foe on the battlefield. He possessed enough skill that he was capable of defeating even Wilhelm, marking him as one of Sword Demon's greatest challenges in the Demi-Human War.

Natural Abilities: Libre was able to regenerate lost limbs and poison targets due to his lineage as a snake human.

Equipment: Libre wielded a sword with both blades at both ends of the hilt. He was extremely proficient with it, and was even able to overpower young Wilhelm. He would have easily killed him if it wasn't for Sphinx appearing out of thin air and slaughtering him in order to resurrect him and cover her retreat.

Trivia[]

  • Libre means free in both Spanish and French.
