Melinda (メリンダ) was Stride Vollachia's wife and a member of the Evil Eye Tribe.
Appearance[]
Melinda was a member of the Evil Eye Tribe and had long, wavy ashen grey hair. She wore a robe of the same color as her hair that covered her entire body. She kept her eyes tightly shut to obscure her Evil Eyes, but when she opened them, her eyeballs were dyed in black, and she a spider web pattern could be seen in them.
Personality[]
Melinda had a self-hatred for her Evil Eye ability and called her own blood "cursed". She often spoke with a stutter and was quite mellow. However, she was very quick to become angry when people went against her ideals and placed innocent and unborn babies in danger. She was also willing to go out of her way and put her life at stake just to protect someone's unborn child.
History[]
Melinda survived the Empire's attack on the Evil Eye Tribe which wiped out almost all of her brethren some time before she met Stride, and she married him some time later. Their marriage had lasted for 2 years by the time of the Subjugation of the Blight Dragon.
Abilities[]
Evil Eyes (魔眼, Magan): As a member of the Evil Eye Tribe, Melinda, rather than having a third eye located somewhere on her body as is common for her tribespeople, was uniquely the owner of two Evil Eyes in the place of conventional eyes. Her right eye was the Evil Eye of Pride, and her left eye was the Evil Eye of Vainglory.[1] The effect of an Evil Eye was activated when someone looked into it, forcing her to keep her eyes shut until she was ready to utilize its power, and, according to Kurgan, they could only ensnare the weak.[2]
- Evil Eye of Pride (傲慢の魔眼, Gōman no Magan): Melinda's right eye. Activated when someone peered into it, the Evil Eye of Pride forced an iniquitous target to confront their sins in an illusionary world.[3] This is the ability Melinda used to force Theresia to confront her sins.
- Evil Eye of Vainglory (虚飾の魔眼, Kyoshoku no Magan): Melinda's left eye. Activated when someone peered into it, the Evil Eye of Vainglory created hallucinatory illusions, presenting a counterfeit reality to its target.[3] This is the ability Melinda used to induce an illusion in Wilhelm's mind, which manifested as a hallucination of Pivot Arnancy, and to control the citizens of Picoutatte.
Equipment:
- Conversation Mirror (対話鏡, Taiwa-kyō): A meteor that allows its user to communicate with others over a long distance by connecting with a separate Conversation Mirror, similar to a cell phone. Melinda used a pair of Conversation Mirrors with her husband, Stride, who had her ensnare Wilhelm with her Evil Eye of Vainglory over a long distance.
Trivia[]
- In the Comic Alive version of Sword Demon Battle Ballad, Melinda had the alias Ashen Bride (灰花嫁, Hai Hanayome). The alias was removed in Ex 6.
