Ryuzu Meyer (リューズ・メイエル) was a half-elf girl who lived in the Sanctuary during the era of the Witches, four centuries ago. She was used by Echidna in order to activate the Barrier and protect the Sanctuary from the Warlock of Melancholy.
Appearance[]
Ryuzu was a petite girl with long, fluffy light pink hair that curved outward at the ends. She wore a large black robe that dragged along the ground and was too big for her hands to show completely through the sleeves. Due to her race, she had a pair of pointy ears which were usually concealed by her pink hair. Her face was very adorable and innocent. Due to the high collar of her attire, her mouth was usually blocked from view, giving the girl a shy and timid air.
Personality[]
Ryuzu acted similarly to how her copies acted during the events of Arc 4, but more lively. She was a diligent girl who was always happy to give a helping hand to everyone in the Sanctuary who needed some help. Despite her timid and shy appearance, she was perfectly capable of forming bonds with people even as troublesome and hard-to-come-close-with as Beatrice.
According to Echidna, the girl's Od possessed great compatibility with the Sanctuary, making her a perfect candidate to use as the core for the Sanctuary's barrier. Sadly, however, her Od first needed to get accustomed to the environment. Before she could get the chance to do so, the Warlock of Melancholy began his attack on the Sanctuary, forcing the Witch of Greed to find other solutions. In such times of peril, Ryuzu showed immense courage and volunteered herself to physically merge her Od with the catalyst which would allow Echidna's plan to work. In her final moments, she confessed her fondness of Beatrice and merged with the mana crystal which acted as the catalyst for the barrier.
History[]
In the years predating Hector's attack on the Sanctuary, Ryuzu was somehow saved by Echidna, who brought her to the Sanctuary in order to test her compatibility with the land.
On the day of Hector's attack, she established contact with a high-grade magic crystal, which allowed her Od to sync with the lands of the Sanctuary and set up an impenetrable barrier which effectively fended off the intruder. She spent the next four centuries encased in the same magic crystal, until Emilia overcame the three trials and lifted the barrier. Her current status or location remain unknown.

- The original Ryuzu has been ranked among the five weakest characters in Re:Zero.[1]
- In the web novel, Echidna renamed herself as Omega, stating that this is how Subaru named her, which implies Echidna's new vessel is the original Omega Ryuzu copy who may have merged with the real Ryuzu Meyer sealed in the crystal, similar to how Shima sacrificed herself by vanishing with the crystal and became her new body in Re:Zero Light Novel Volume 15.
