  • Hello Furuta! My name’s Alex, & I’m the new Wiki Manager assigned to the Re:Zero Wiki (it was my very first anime so I’m quite excited :D). Basically this means I’m a contractor whose job is to look after this Wiki & assist its Admins however I can, be it with technical assistance or taking your feedback for Fandom. Occasionally I’ll also check in to verify the Wiki’s health, & you can reach out to me on Discord @ Ursuul#0575.

Right now though, the DiscordIntegrator script in use here slows load times to around 7 seconds, which isn’t ideal. Might I recommend switching to DiscordChat, a more lightweight Discord integration script, or Discord, which does mostly the same thing as DiscordIntegrator in a bit more efficient fashion? Most of your Infoboxes are not portable as well, I’d be happy to convert them to more portable formats for your mobile readers, a majority of all your viewers. They should look & function nearly identically to their current version on desktop, so there’s little downside.

Lemme know what you think, & Merry Christmas!

    • Hello! Nice meeting you Alex. My name is Furuta / Gracedharperd, and I'm the Re:Zero Wikia Admin.

Regarding the latter, I'll come back to that tomorrow since I'm caught up with some IRL stuff right now.

It's very nice meeting you & Merry Christmas as well!

    • Pleased to meet you as well, feel free to take your time regarding the proposals; no rush.

    • Discord: Sure, I guess. No one's made a big deal about it so I don't really think it matters that much though

Infoboxes: I guess, but I don't really get the point when I have no problem viewing information on mobile

        Loading editor
      • Do you have a particular preference for a Discord alternative?
      • That is likely not the case for all mobile users, since the current Infoboxes are based on tables (which web designers have been warning against using for structure for decades). Moreover, there is always the potentiality of bugs occurring or having gone unseen in mobile with non-Portable Infoboxes, which Portable Infoboxes preemptively avoid. It’s entirely optional that you have PIs, but if they look & work basically the same on desktop, there’s no harm in a mobile upgrade no?

    • About Discord, I think I'd welcome a change to the implementation. I have to block the Widget using my Browser's AdBlock because of it's slow load times on my poor internet connection. It personally doesn't affect me because I do that, but it would be nice for others who don't have this alternative.

I'm not knowledgeable about Discord since I don't use it, although it'd be nice if it could be implemented without having to reconnect the server again

      • That is likely not the case for all mobile users...

All right then. I'd like to see a draft to know how it works before you implement anything though

        Loading editor
    • I’ll go with DiscordChat then, should just be a matter of editing two MediaWiki pages here & then it’d be done, no reconnection ought to be required.

That’s absolutely fine. I can make drafts later in the week (will also implement Discord change then) & once I’m done with the drafts I’ll letcha know so you can review them at your leisure. 👍🏻

    • The Discord integration was changed to Discord.js. Load tiems seem considerably improved for me, but if there’s any issue for you I can look into it. I just finished classifying all your templates, & will begin creating drafts for the dozen or so non-Portable Infoboxes over the weekend.

        Loading editor
    • The drafts are done, feel free to review them &/or approve them Angelo. You can test them by temporarily adding /Draft to any Infobox, like this. You can also see the old version of the Character Infobox here & compare it to the new version here.

Lemme know if there’s anything about them that you’d like me to change, & if you’re happy with them, please lemme know so that I can approve them (if you don’t want to do so yourself).

    • Two questions:

      1. Do these auto add categories or do you have to edit them like you did with the Konosuba templates?

      2. Is it possible to code them to have resizeable images? Like specifying how large you want the image to be?

        Loading editor
      1. To the best of my knowledge yes, I tried to find every instance of auto-categorization & make sure it still works in portable versions.
      2. No, PIs were built not to do that intentionally because it’s a bad practice & produces inconsistency. I can make all Infoboxes use 300px width however if you prefer.

The wiki uses different sizes based on what kind of image it is, so it'd be incredibly awkward if all images were set at the same width. I guess it's just a personal thing, sideways rectangular images feel small to me at 250px. I'll fool around with it for a bit before deciding on anything

Edit: I looked at several pages and I guess 250px across the board works

        Loading editor
    • I was looking at other wikis for examples, and I was wondering if tabbers could be added to the PIs to display multiple images like these examples. It'd be even better if the tabbers didn't stand out as much

Awesome. I can still transition the Infoboxes to use universally wider images to accommodate your personal preference for sideways rectangular images if you ever decided to go with that, individually resizeable images is simply one of the very few things PIs don’t support (& it’s deliberate).
I was looking at other wikis for examples, and I was wondering if tabbers could be added to the PIs to display multiple images like these examples. It'd be even better if the tabbers didn't stand out as much
PIs absolutely support image tabbers (via <gallery>) & they do it in a fashion that is far more ideal for Mobile than regular <tabber> (in fact, PIs will convert <tabber> to <gallery> in output if used in image fields). This is the syntax:
      {{Infobox here
      |Image field = <gallery>
      Image1.jpg|Caption1
      Image2.png|Caption2
      Image2.svg|Caption3
      </gallery>
      }}
I can make modify how the output looks however you like with CSS to ensure that it doesn’t stick out so much. If you have an example you absolutely wanted to use then I could mimic that.

I can't think of any examples since our template has the image at the top instead of the character name. Do you have any ideas?

    • I was thinking something along the lines of the Infoboxes I did on Hunter X Hunter.

        Loading editor
    • I do think it looks nice (similar to the one on the IE wiki), but the white line kind of looks awkward to me

        Loading editor
    • Not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the white border around the image?
Edit: Regardless, it’ll probably be sometime next week that I write the CSS for an example to show you.

        Loading editor
    • An example is Mito Freecss' page, the tabbed part is a white area above the image

        Loading editor
    • Hmmm, unsure if that’s avoidable, although perhaps it will not look so bad with the border above it & no background color (it’ll be transparent but there’ll still be extra space). Will see what can be done.

        Loading editor
    • That's fine, I'll just get used to it if it's unavoidable

        Loading editor
    • See my version live here, the white space is indeed unavoidable because that’s literally just the site background that you can see because the element is transparent. If you have an alternative style I can look at mimicking that, but otherwise this version looks fine to me.

Would you be alright with me approving these drafts so that the PI versions go live?

        Loading editor
    • What would the tabber look like filled in? I don't have a problem with the draft but I'm curious

        Loading editor
    • I’ve updated it to be filled in, which you will be eventually be able to see here. May potentially take several minutes for the change to take effect for you to look at however, due to cache.

        Loading editor
    • I saw the change while making the PI on the other wiki; I think it looks better than having a transparent line. I'll approve the drafts and I'm hoping to get some feedback on the other design from the other admins

        Loading editor
    • Awesome, glad you like this version! Luck with the other PIs.

        Loading editor
    • Does approving the drafts automatically replace the current template?

        Loading editor
    • Yes, one click & it’ll update the main template & delete the draft for you.

        Loading editor
    • I think I've updated all of the templates, let me know if I missed one

        Loading editor
    • Looks clear to me, & I see PIs live on pages; good work!

        Loading editor
    • Sorry for bothering you again but I have another question: would it be possible to tidy up the bottom of the templates? The top is rounded but the bottom is a little messy

        Loading editor
    • Np, will look into it now.

        Loading editor
    • Done, may have to wait for cache to clear to see changes.

        Loading editor
    • Would it be possible to remove the extra line at the bottom as well? Sorry for not making that clear in my last question

        Loading editor
    • Yes of course, one moment.

        Loading editor
    • Done.

        Loading editor
    • Thank you very much, that's all that I have right now

        Loading editor
    • you’re welcome!

        Loading editor
    • Just popping in to comment that I think the new templates look pretty seamless! You guys have done a great job on them. From my understanding if I were to create a new character page (or the like) the code itself should be the same as I was using with the old templates, right?

        Loading editor
    • Yes

        Loading editor
    • I've now updated the character page to be more compatible with mobile. It still needs header colors and such though and could use help adding those

        Loading editor
    • I've updated the header colors so the template is now done

        Loading editor
    • awesome! Glad you were able to do all that on your own :D
